Have you ever heard the expression “Work Smarter Not Harder”? What if we translated that and applied it to the way we live? Say it with me, “Live Smarter Not Harder”, makes sense to me!
Technology is changing the way that we age by enhancing our health and safety with a new field of research known as gero-technologies. After doing some research, I have discovered some really great Gero-technologies. What are Gero-technologies? Purely technology that has been developed to enhance health, safety, aspirations and opportunities for the older or aging person(s). The goal is to remain engaged, safe, active, and included.
Here are my favorite Gero-technologies to look out for:
Transpiration- GreatCall, a senior ride service, is a San Diego based company that makes easy to use and simplified cell phones for seniors. Senior customers will be able to summon Lyft rides by dialing “0” on any Jitterbug phone to verbally request a ride from a live personal operator who’ll provide an cost estimate and time estimate prior to booking. “Jitterbug” is the name of the GreatCall phones.
Health- Pillboxie, is an App that will help keep track of medications with reminders and notifications, and iBP Blood Pressure allows for tracking blood pressure without a cuff. Then there's MedMinder, a collection of automatic medication dispensers that will first flash to remind users to take their medication. They then beep if the medicine's still not taken. Next, they call the user. After a certain period of time, a caregiver or family member will be notified.
Home- Reminder Rosie, developed by LifeAssist Technologies, an awesome clock that allows you to record personalized messages and reminders that will be broadcast at scheduled times. Evermind for family caregivers, looks for signals of activity and well-being by detecting when electrical appliances are switched on and off. Signaling that someone is in their routine, or that there is a change in activity which could be a cause for concern.
