About: Covenant Woods
Move to a Senior Community in Mechanicsville, Virginia
Founded in 1883 as The Richmond Home for Ladies and expanded into a Life Plan Community in 2001, Covenant Woods has a rich history spanning 140 years. Located on a 90-acre campus in Mechanicsville, Virginia, our community is home to over 350 residents in independent living apartments, cottages, assisted living, memory support, and skilled nursing neighborhoods.
In 2020, Covenant Woods received its third consecutive five-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), a distinction held by less than 10 percent of Life Plan Communities, solidifying our reputation as a leader in the senior living industry.
Thom Wright, Covenant Woods President and CEO, reflects on our enduring mission: “Our 140-year mission to serve elders was – and still is – revolutionary. We foster a community where residents, staff, volunteers, and community partners collaborate to support successful aging, engagement, fellowship, and purposeful living.”
Covenant Woods’ history is marked by a series of pivotal decisions, expansions, and innovations that have shaped us into the modern Life Plan Community we are today.
Guided by our vision, mission, and values:
- Vision: Wellness through Purposeful Living.
- Mission: To provide exceptional health care, quality of life, security, and comfort in alignment with our founders’ benevolent vision of faith from 1883.
- Core Values: We uphold values such as Wholeness of Life, Equality, Quality of Service, Integrity, and Stewardship of Resources.
Our leadership team works tirelessly to bring our vision to life for current residents and secure a bright future for generations to come.
If you’re wondering what a Life Plan Community is, it’s a modern term for what was previously known as a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). Covenant Woods offers independent living for adults aged 62+ along with a comprehensive range of healthcare services, including assisted living, memory support, and skilled nursing care. Our not-for-profit community also provides guaranteed, priority access to on-site healthcare services for residents for life.
